Many developers have the misconception that India is not a wealthy enough country, so people cannot afford entertainment such as video games and in-app purchases. Indians themselves have also said that they are reluctant to spend too much on computer games because they always feel that it is a “childish pastime”. But this is not the case with mobile games – apps with a good monetization strategy can still reap huge rewards in India.

Between 2017 and 2020, the Indian mobile gaming market grew by 38%. In comparison, the United States grew by 10%, and China grew by only 8%. Additionally, India is adding new paying users faster than any other country in the world, with its NPU numbers increasing by 40% in 2020 and 50% in 2021. Experts predict that the Indian video games market will be worth $11 billion by 2029.
